- James Tavernier wants Rangers to flawless in the last five matches
- This season could bring the curtain down on a long career at Ibrox
- A title win is pivotal for him to cement his own legacy
Rangers captain James Tavernier demands a perfect end to the season for the Gers to win the SPFL title.
Captain Tavernier knows exactly what it takes to win the Premiership title, doing so under Steven Gerrard in 2021.
That season, Tavernier was the catalyst, contributing 10 goals and 11 assists in 29 Premiership games.
Tavernier has notched over 500 appearances for the Gers and must be the player to drive elite standards every day.
In a recent interview, the captain has challenged the players to a perfect end to the season to secure the title.
Perfection may be needed, with Rangers, Celtic, and Hearts all in positions to win.
Tavernier, more than anybody in the Rangers team, needs this title to cement his own legacy at Ibrox.

What Captain Tavernier said
“We can only focus on ourselves; we can’t really focus on anyone else.”
“We’ve just got to get five wins, and hopefully that takes us where we want to be at the end of the season.”
“That’s obviously the goal, and going forward we’d like clean sheets as well and not try and make the games harder for ourselves.”
The captain also reflected on the importance of the warm weather break before crunch time arrives.
“It’s obviously just bonding time with the boys, getting closer together.”
“It’s the last stretch now, so it’s more about getting the boys really together because the only time we had this was probably pre-season.”
“This is a time where we can spend five days with each other and just grow together and make sure we finish the season off strong.”

Tavernier’s own legacy on the line
Despite scoring 13 goals in all competitions this season, Tavernier’s role in the team is diminishing.
Danny Rohl clearly prefers to play Dujon Sterling in the big games, signalling the captain’s time may be coming to an end.
His contract has also nearly run out, with no clear indication that he’s going to sign a new one.
If he is to leave in the summer, Tavernier needs this title to try to cement his own legacy at Ibrox.
There is no questioning Tav’s loyalty to the club, taking the club back into the Premiership and going on to win the title, the Scottish Cup, and the League Cup.
However, despite all the scoring accolades and the run to the Europa League final, he hasn’t won enough silverware.
Multiple Premiership titles on his CV, including everything else he’s achieved, would go a long way in cementing his legacy.
The 34-year-old will play a huge part in bringing home title number 56.
