- Rangers are set to secure Ashton Scally on first professional contract.
- Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Liverpool showed strong interest in full back.
- Danny Rohl rates teenager highly amidst Spain training camp involvement.
Rangers have secured the future of one of their highest rated young players, with the newly turned 16-year-old set to sign a professional contract at Ibrox.
The Daily Record have reported “that after nine months of groundwork by the club’s hierarchy, he’s agreed to sign his first professional contract with Gers.”
A left back by trade, he is seen as one of the top prospects coming out of the Ibrox academy.
The defender was being chased by Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and a host of other top English sides.
Ashton Scally involved in first-team
He alongside teenage goalkeeper Rydnn McGuire, took part in Danny Rohl’s first team squad during their recent training excursion to Spain.
The German head coach previously wanted to debut the teenager against Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup along with fellow starlet Kyle Glasgow.
However, this was blocked due to regulations on playing under 16’s in senior games.
Rohl was able to hand a debut to 17-year-old winger Zebedee Lawson in that fixture but lamented the blocking of his other two prospects.
“It’s always important for us as a club, also for the academy,” he said on Lawson’s debut.
“It was a shame it was not allowed to take Kyle and Ashton as well.
“They could use this opportunity to play, but there are some rules.”
The Rangers boss was keen to stress how highly the club rates both youngsters.
“These are high-potential players,” he revealed.
“We like them, we want to keep them, very high-potential players for us for the future.
“Hopefully if they have the right age, they can help us as well.”
Future proofed
The full back is the son of former Falkirk player Neil Scally.
He is set to agree a three-year pro deal with the Govan-based side.
With Jayden Meghoma set to return to Brentford at the end of his loan this summer, Scally could move upwards and be back up to first-choice Tuur Rommens next season.
