Djeidi Gassama. Enigma. Frustration. Devastation.
The recent game against Falkirk was a microcosm of the player and why the fans get frustrated with him.
He is inconsistent, as most wingers can be, but there have to be limits to this.
In the important 6-3 win at the Falkirk Stadium, he wasn’t quite anonymous in the first half, but was ineffective.
Like the rest of the team, it took until the second half for him to come to life, and he did this in style.
Djeidi Gassama has to play on the left
Against Falkirk, Gassama started on the right. He stayed on the same side after the break, but the turnaround meant he was attacking on the left from the outside in.
Then came the difference.
Within two minutes, he had single-handedly created the equaliser, and he was just as influential for the fifth goal.
The Mauritania international worked hard for the team, and typically, he plays better when the collective is on top.
His use of the ball can be frustrating, but the key is to expose him in space as soon as possible, and preferably on the left-hand side!

Danny Rohl recently explained his use of Gassama on the right which can be summed up by availability, pressing, and need.
The manager isn’t blessed with great options on the right, mostly due to a lack of form.
Hopefully, Oliver Antman and Andreas Skov Olsen can overcome previous struggles, and with Thelo Aasgaard, they can supplement the impact of Mikey Moore on that side.
In the Dundee United game at Ibrox, Gassama gave his best outing on the right in recent months, when he was pivotal for Aasgaard’s goal.
The predictable dip followed against Falkirk, but it’s clear for the rest of the season that the biggest answer to the Djeidi Gassama conundrum is to play him on the left.
Particularly at Ibrox, and in certain away games as an impact sub.
He will have a key role to play in the coming weeks.
