- SFA officials announced as Scottish Premiership returns to begin the split
- Clancy was the official at Ibrox for Danny Rohl’s first victory as manager
- Referee was mired in controversy in recent match with the Steelmen
Kevin Clancy has been announced as the referee at Ibrox on Sunday as Rangers host Motherwell in the first post-split fixture.
Clancy was the referee for Danny Rohl’s first home match in charge at Ibrox last October as the Gers ran out 3-1 winners.
He will be assisted by Graeme Stewart and Chris Rae while Grant Irvine is assisted by Andrew Dallas on VAR.
Rangers will be hoping to extend their winning streak to five matches in their bid to lift the Premiership trophy.
Controversy around officiating recent Motherwell match
The appointment of Clancy comes after he intervened in his role overseeing VAR in Motherwell’s clash against Celtic last month.
Referee John Beaton had waved away an incident involving Celtic’s Daizen Maeda only for Clancy to advise Beaton to go to the monitor.
Celtic were then awarded a penalty, which was converted and Motherwell’s Emmanuel Longelo was issued a red card.
The decision was hotly debated with BBC’s Stephen Craigan commenting that he did not believe it was a penalty.

Kevin Clancy being assigned Rangers’ first match of the split fixtures brings attention, especially after one of the recent matches he was involved with not just involved Motherwell but one of their title rivals.
Every decision that is made or not made by officials, whether that be on the pitch or with VAR are always scrutinised and even more so in matches which involves a title race.
That is why Rangers must focus on themselves and not let any refereeing decisions become a distraction in their battle for their 56th Scottish Premiership.
