- Manny Fernandez was reasoned in his assessment of speculation on his future
- The Nigerian international stated he loves life at Ibrox, but the noise must be a good thing
- Premier League and European clubs are thought to be tracking the player
Manny Fernandez has acknowledged the transfer speculation around his progress at Rangers, but the towering central defender has stated he is happy to be at Ibrox.
The comments will be music to the ears of the club’s fans, who are enjoying what they see from the 24-year-old.
His breakthrough season has been a dramatic one, coming from a collective struggle under Russell Martin to dominant progress under Danny Rohl.
Fernandez is increasingly looking like the real deal, with clubs on the continent keeping tabs on him.
Manny Fernandez addresses transfer speculation
The former Peterborough player was speaking ahead of Rangers’ crucial league game against Motherwell on Sunday, with so much on the line.
This is the first of the final five league games, and the penultimate home game of the campaign.
It will also be the second-last Ibrox fixture of James Tavernier’s Rangers career, and Manny Fernandez paid tribute to the captain’s influence on his early days in Glasgow.
“He has always been in my corner,” he said, revealing insight into Tav’s understated influence in the dressing room.
I love it here – Fernandez
Manny Fernandez was clever in his response to questions of a potential summer transfer.
It is known that clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen and Feyenoord were present at Falkirk two weeks ago, while Arsenal are said to be at the front of a Premier League queue for his services.
The noise is reverberating because he is impressing on the pitch – and that’s not a bad thing.
While he will have ambitions to play at a higher level, the big man came across very well, basically stating that he’s in a good place and in no hurry to leave.
“I haven’t heard anything,” said Fernandez on the question of interest from other clubs.
“I see myself being here. I’ve still got four years left on my contract, whether that’s to run down my contract. I’m happy I’m here.
“I’m happy to carry on being here,” he said.
“If there’s noise going on, I’m happy for the noise.
“It’s a great achievement, I guess, or something that you can look to knowing that you’re doing well.
“But I feel like for me, right now, I’m focused on taking it game by game and winning the title and bringing it back for this club. I love it here.”
