  • Maurice Edu lands gig for the 2026 World Cup
  • News on former managers Steven Gerrard and Alex McLeish
  • And some updates on young players at Ibrox

Former Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu has been confirmed as part of Fox Sports’ coverage team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in North America.

In doing so he has extended his growing reputation as one of the leading American football voices in football broadcasting.

The 40-year-old will work alongside Sky Sports’ SPFL commentator Ian Crocker and former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves as part of Fox’s tournament coverage.

His time in Glasgow proved successful, making 125 appearances and scoring 12 goals, while winning three league titles, a Scottish Cup in 2009 and two League Cups.

He also reflected on Walter’s impact as a man not just a manager.

“What a special man he was. The word legend gets thrown around too much in football but that’s what he was.

“He epitomised what the club meant to so many people.”

Steven Gerrard’s route to Burnley

Steven Gerrard’s route to a managerial return has been cleared after Burnley announced the departure of Scott Parker.

The club announced the head coach’s departure in a statement on Thursday morning, which read:

“Scott Parker has left his position as Head Coach of Burnley Football Club by mutual consent…

“The process of appointing a new permanent Head Coach ahead of the 2026/27 season has begun.”

The opportunity to not only immediately return Burnley to the Premier League but make them a consistent presence in England’s top-flight would appeal.

Whenever there has been a managerial vacancy at Ibrox in the last five years, Gerrard’s name has always been flown around.

Therefore, if he is to be appointed at Turf Moor, it would tie him to a long-term project and would end any talk of an Ibrox return.

Alex McLeish fighting spirit

Former Ibrox gaffer Alex McLeish, who oversaw the 2005 title triumph, believes the current league situation still demands composure rather than resignation.

“Sunday was a disappointing result, but you can’t give up,” he said to the Daily Record.

“You have to keep going because as you saw back in 2005, anything can happen.

“We knew back then it was still doable, even after losing to Celtic.

“We still had four games to go but we just had to keep piling on the pressure by getting wins.

“The week after the Old Firm defeat, we went up to Aberdeen and had a phenomenal 3-1 win up there on the Sunday afternoon.

“We’d travelled up the day before, when Celtic were playing Hibs.

“They ended up losing to leave the door open for us.

“We obviously still had a tough game at Pittodrie to take care of.

“But we did our duty and that kept us going.

“We won the next two and made sure we stayed alive heading into the final day at Easter Road.

“And that’s what this Rangers team needs to do, keep winning.

Charlie Adam praises Findlay Curtis

Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has praised Findlay Curtis for his continued progress at Kilmarnock.

He moved to Killie in January 2026 to increase his gametime and earn some meaningful minutes in the SPFL Premiership.

His ability to cause problems down the wing earned him a call-up to the Scotland team for the first time.

He played nine minutes in Scotland’s 1-0 loss to Japan at Hampden on March 28th.

Adam has praised his progress at Kilmarnock and for taking the risk to perform and get regular minutes away from Ibrox.

“Findlay Curtis has come in, had his moment, and then had to go to Kilmarnock and play regularly. He could have stagnated.

“I think he has done the right thing, Findlay Curtis, by getting out and playing.

“Hopefully, his performances will get him the opportunity to come back to Rangers in the summer.”

Luca Rankin signs first professional deal

Luca Rankin is understood to be signing his first professional contract at Rangers.

The 15-year-old will put pen to paper on a three-year-deal at Auchenhowie, according to Chris Jack at The Rangers Review.

By signing a contract, the Scotland U15 international, who is the son of interim Ayr United manager John Rankin will follow in the footsteps of Kyle Glasgow and Ashton Scally.

That will provide the youngster with a chance to make a strong impression in Danny Rohl’s squad next season.
