- Charlie Miller urges Danny Rohl to change tactics and personnel ahead of Hearts clash at Tynecastle.
- Ex-Rangers midfielder criticises work-rate, calling midfield imbalance and lack of tracking back against Motherwell.
- Miller warns Hearts will dominate unless Rangers improve intensity, structure, and defensive discipline.
Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Miller has called for Danny Rohl to make tactical changes ahead of their crunch clash with Hearts at Tynecastle on Monday.
Rangers fell four points behind the league leading Jambos after a home defeat to Motherwell last Sunday.
Hearts defeated Hibernian at Easter Road to go four clear of the Ibrox side, and three clear of now second placed Celtic, who defeated Falkirk on Saturday.
Charlie Miller blasts attacking output
Miller called for the German head coach to change the attacking duo of Thelo Aasgaard and Djeidi Gassama for the trip to Edinburgh.
He spoke about the upcoming match on the All About the Gers Podcast.
“They two do not run hard enough that game,” he said on the pair’s displays vs Motherwell.
“They were outworked, outplayed, outfought.”
Change to the status-quo
Miller also called for a formation change from the recently preferred 4-2-2-2 utilised by Rohl.
The duo of Nico Raskin and Tochi Chukwuani found themselves overrun against the Steelmen.
Miller predicts more of the same against Hearts without an extra body.
“You cannot play two players in midfield that cannot tackle or track back,” the nine-in-a-row legend explained.
“If he goes and plays like that at Tynecastle, Hearts will run through us.”
He also lambasted Rangers recent run of going two down in the first half, a feat repeated against Motherwell from the week prior’s trip to Falkirk.
“We can’t just concede two goals and expect to win games all the time,” he explained.
“We need to run harder and we’ve got to work harder.”
Read Rangers analysis
Miller’s warning comes at a critical point in the season, with Rangers already having slipped four points behind Hearts with just 12 points left to play for.
With Tynecastle next on the agenda, the former midfielder believes selection and structure must change immediately if Rohl is to avoid another damaging defeat.
He believes that work-rate and balance in midfield will be decisive,
Especially against a side currently setting the pace at the top of the table.
