Bailey Rice has signed a new Rangers contract, keeping his Ibrox pathway alive under Derek McInnes.
The midfielder has agreed a one-year extension, with Rangers holding the option of a further year. The deal gives Rice a fresh chance to push again after an important but interrupted stage in his development.
Rice joined Rangers from Motherwell’s academy in the summer of 2022. He then made his first-team debut at just 16 in a 3-0 Premiership win over Livingston.
Now 19, Rice has already gathered valuable senior experience. That includes a first European start in the Europa League quarter-final against Athletic Bilbao during the 2024/25 season.
Rice Extension Gives Rangers A Development Decision
Rice made his pride clear after signing the extension, saying he has supported Rangers since childhood. He also admitted injuries have given him some of the hardest moments of his career.
That honesty matters because Rice’s talent has never really been the debate. The bigger question has been how Rangers manage his next step and keep his progress moving.
ReadRangers has already covered how Kyle Glasgow’s first-team ambition gives the academy a timely storyline. Rice now adds another youth-development thread to McInnes’ first summer.
Rangers need to decide whether Rice stays close to the first team or seeks regular senior minutes on loan. Either route has to serve his development, not just protect squad depth.
For Rice, the message is clear. He has another contract, another pre-season and another chance to show he can turn promise into a sustained Rangers role.
