Doubt cast over Rangers bid for ‘most exciting winger’ Farés Ghedjemis as Celtic renew interest

Rangers and Celtic are said to be on collision course in the pursuit of Frosinone winger Farés Ghedjemis.

The 23-year-old French-Algerian is a man in demand, with further interest from clubs in Italy and abroad, according to Italian journalist Luca Bendoni.

Writing on X, he detailed that “Fares Ghedjemis is considered as one of Rangers’ top targets for the winger position.”

This soon picked up a lot of traction as expected, but further correspondence on the reported Rangers transfer news appeared to change the situation.

Scottish football analyst Kai Watson described Ghedjemis as “the most exciting winger link so far”.

Rangers transfer news – latest on Farés Ghedjemis

As acknowledged by Luca Bendoni, Ghedjemis was targeted by Celtic back in January and has been tracked for a long time at Parkhead.

The next development in the emerging story came from Bendoni’s compatriot Gianluca Di Marzio, who commented online to say that Celtic are back in contention and could go head-to-head with their Old Firm rivals.

Bendoni doubled down on Rangers’ interest, having checked with his sources and reconfirmed that “Rangers are very keen and trying”.

Doubt has been cast on that version of events by the Herald’s Stephen McGowan who provided an update to say “Celtic have renewed their interest in £8m-rated Algerian winger Fares Ghedjemi,” while “Rangers are now prioritising other targets including Brighton’s Amario Cozier-Duberry.”

Are you keeping up?

Finally for now, Celtic boss Martin O’Neill spoke on the player during his press conference ahead of their opener against Dundee on Monday.

“We have a very, very strong interest in him, he said.

“I don’t know how close we can get, but we are genuinely making really good progress.”

Rangers transfer targets provide encouragement

Transfer silly season is well and truly upon us.

As much as Rangers want and need quality on the wings, clubs and agents will be aware of this situation and will look to exploit it.

Farés Ghedjemis is clearly a talented player, fresh from his involvement in Algeria’s World Cup squad and last season, he notched 15 goals and three assists for Frosinone in Serie B.

We await the outcome of Rangers’ winger chase.

Whether it is Ghedjemis, Cozier-Duberry, Janoah Markelo, or Vaclav Cerny, the intentions are encouraging and deals will soon be concluded.

Rangers need two right wingers and a further option from the left flank, with one player possibly able to cover both sides of the pitch.

The remainder of the transfer window will be interesting and intriguing.
