Couhaib Driouech confirms injury issue, blasts Rangers transfer collapse – “It sucks but that’s just how it is”

Couhaib Driouech has confirmed details of the injury that appears to have shattered his Rangers transfer, describing the setback that sees the winger back in the PSV Eindhoven squad.

Despite Rangers claiming an effective 4-6 week lay-off, the Dutch-Moroccan was back in training with his teammates at the Phillips Stadium today.

He took part in various drills, but was absent from small sided games, still managing his condition after issues were picked up in his Rangers medical.

In conversation with ESPN Netherlands, Couhaib Driouech detailed his injury situation and his feelings on the Rangers transfer collapse, having been at Ibrox for the Europa League elimination to Jagiellonia Bialystok last week.

“It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but I am back, said Driouech.

“I think there was a disagreement between the doctors. I had a small tear in my thigh. I think it was made worse because I took a knock to the knee that week, and that turned into a hematoma.

“I feel good and am back on the pitch. I have no influence on what they decided there.

“I would have considered it a great step. It’s a shame, but I’m also happy to be back. You’re basically already there in your head. You already see yourself playing in a different kit, but it’s not the first time this has happened to me. It sucks, but that’s just how it is.”

Driouech plans to be in PSV matchday squad this weekend

The player is said to no longer be in any discomfort, and envisages a swift return to the pitch, but it will interesting to see how this strange situation unfolds.

Mounir Boualin reports that Celta Vigo are back in for the winger, with Columbus Crew also interested.

Rangers stance over Couhaib Driouech was a massive, strong call.

The club clearly didn’t want to hand over the multi-million fee without an immediate impact on the pitch and they felt that this injury prevented it.

That’s understandable, but now Rangers need to have an alternative option in place by the time Driouech returns to action, otherwise further scrutiny will follow.

It’s a fascinating saga, but Rangers recruitment needs continue.

The club has been linked with Leicester City’s Stephy Mavididi, while Camilo Mena is said to be another winger of interest.

Thursday against Jablonec may come to soon, but we’re heading toward a critical juncture in the transfer window for Rangers to onboard the required quality to give the lift that Derek McInnes’ squad needs.
