Rangers’ next major signing just got one step closer

Rangers have moved one step closer to landing the club’s next major signing with the news that Kevin Kelsy is on his way to Europe.

US-based journalist Tom Bogert has detailed that Kelsy is set to undergo a medical with some contractual issues still to be agreed.

If the signing is completed, Kelsy would become Rangers’ 13th signing over the summer period, and he will step into a massive void in the absence of Youssef Chermiti.

The next update on Rangers transfer news won’t be far away.

After the win against Aberdeen, Derek McInnes would not be drawn directly on the Venezuelan striker, but he made it clear he was hoping that the deal could be finalised within a couple of days.

Kevin Kelsy set for Rangers medical and final talks

It’s encouraging that Kelsy is now on his way to the UK, with a deal within reach.

However, as witnessed with Couhaib Driouech, it’s never done until it’s done.

Rangers still have two/three incoming transfers on the wishlist, with a bigger number of outgoing transactions to complete.

Kelsy would be coming in to become a key player immediately, and hopefully he can go on to make a big impact.

His former manager, Phil Neville, believes the 22-year-old is a star in the making and has advised Rangers of the serious potential they could be gaining.

The former Manchester United and Everton man was asked if there was concern or surprise at how much Rangers are paying Portland Timbers for Kelsy.

“No, because he’s a star, he said.

“When you look at the attributes needed to play at the top, top level, it’s not just the finishing, it’s not just the physique, it’s his attitude.

“We landed once at one in the morning, and he went straight to the training ground to do his recovery. And he did that every week.

“He set the alarm off, the caretaker had to come out, the GM (general manager) called me saying, ‘What’s going on at the training ground?’. It was Kevin Kelsy doing his recovery.

“He does the little things incredibly well.

“They’re spending on potential. He’s not the finished article yet. He’s got a long way to go.

“His year at Portland was up and down, but I just saw star quality, his runs, his arrogance, his belief in himself.

“I spoke to Rangers last week, and I said you will get someone who’s not the finished article, but if you give him lots of love and let him develop, he can be a star.”
