The transfer window closes in Greece on Tuesday night, meaning John Souttar is entering the last-chance saloon to secure his switch to Aris.
Just as it seemed the defender was all set to join the Thessaloniki club, a contract impasse at Ibrox threatens to derail the situation until January at least.
That would surely deprive Souttar of any meaningful playing time, and Rangers would not receive the reported £1m plus figure that was reported.
Aris said to still be keen on John Souttar.
According to a report from Sport.FM, relayed by Inside Ibrox, Aris have not walked away from their interest in the 29-year-old Scotland international.
However, the Greek club are not fully in control of the situation.
Souttar must first resolve outstanding financial matters with Rangers relating to the remaining year of his contract before any move can be finalised.
The former Hearts man has been surplus to requirements under Derek McInnes, but he has no future at Ibrox, just months after signing a new deal under Danny Rohl.
McInnes on Souttar
McInnes addressed the Souttar situation ahead of Rangers’ 3-0 win over Celtic on Sunday:
“I spoke to John this morning. He trained, there’s a bit of interest in him from one or two clubs, one club maybe a bit further down the line than the other but I think it’s something that could develop.
“I don’t think it’s at that (final) stage yet, but maybe something will happen over the next two or three days,” added McInnes.
The sooner this one is settled, the better.
