- Rangers and Celtic are in a battle to sign Danish star Silas Andersen
- Andersen has the tangibles to be a hard-nosed midfielder
- The new investment strategy could give Rangers the upper hand
Rangers and Celtic are in an Old Firm tug of war for the signature of Denmark U21 international Silas Andersen.
Andersen is currently playing for BK Hacken in Sweden and has previously played in the Inter Milan academy.
In his short career, the steely defensive midfielder has already played in the UEFA Europa and Conference leagues.
Andersen has shown all the tangibles in his early career that he can be that defensive and tough presence in the Rangers midfield.
With both Glasgow teams after the midfielder, it could come down to league positions as to who signs him.
Currently, it’s an advantage to Rangers, who sit three points behind Hearts in the Premiership table.

Andersen’s playing style
Andersen plays as a safety valve in the midfield, protecting the defence and even possessing the ability to drop into the backline.
At 6ft3, he has a large frame that can protect the ball, win tackles, and clear his lines with his head.
He averages an 85% pass accuracy, playing short, crisp vertical passes that keep the tempo high.
Andersen has a tendency to arrive late and score important goals.
He has a powerful right foot and isn’t afraid to strike from distance if the opposition sits too deep.
Rangers fans love a player who plays with his heart on his sleeve and likes to get dirty.
In the 2025 Allsvenskan season, he picked up 11 yellow cards in 26 matches.
As recently as this month, Andersen picked up a red card against AIK.
The Gers have many players who can play, but not many players who like to get physical.
Sometimes, these are the types of players you need to be ruthless winners.
A new wave of investment
This summer, the team wants to keep hold of their valuable assets and add more quality to compete on all fronts.
The Gers will face a challenge to keep hold of Manny Fernandez, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League.
Danny Rohl has talent in midfield, with the likes of Nico Raskin playing an integral part with Belgium and Rangers.
However, the signing of Andersen would be a statement of intent that shows they want to bring in ruthless competitors.
Andersen is likely to cost close to £6 million, and that shouldn’t be a problem with the new investment strategy at Ibrox.

The Gers are crying out for a different type of midfield player, a midfielder that’s defensively solid and aggressive.
Andersen embodies the Rangers’ way, and at 21, could go on to become a legend or a massive profit.
Danny Rohl needs players who, when the going gets tough, will come out fighting for three points.
