- Rangers winger aiming to rediscover form and boost value during title run-in.
Djeidi Gassama has received praise from his international manager ahead of his debut against Argentina.
The Rangers winger is set to make his first appearance for Mauritania tonight in a sold out La Bombonera.
He will face off against the 2022 winners, and face off against global superstars such as Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez.
High praise for Djeidi Gassama
His new coach, Aritz Lopez Garai has spoken about integrating new players, including Gassama into his group.
“With new players like Gassama coming in, it’s a very good opportunity for them to raise their level,” he said.
He revealed that his plan is to integrate the former France U20 international into his experienced core, starting with tonight’s friendly.
“Working alongside experienced players is key,” he explained.
“This group gives young players like Gassama the perfect platform to grow.”
Despite his inexperience at the level, the Spaniard was full of praise for the former Sheffield Wednesday man, talking up his ability and potential.
“He already has a very good level, and this environment gives him the chance to improve even more.”
The player previously turned down a call up for his birth nation in 2024 but has accepted the call up from the new Maurutania boss to play in what Garai described as “an unforgettable day” for the African nation.

Gassama has been a favourite of Ibrox boss Danny Rohl, who worked with him previously at Hillsborough.
He has netted eight goals and contributed four assists since his arrival in Scotland.
However, only two of his goals have come in the Scottish Premiership.
This has led to many supporters lamenting his inconsistency over the course.
Rangers turned down a reported £10m loan-to-buy offer from Monaco in January and if they are to keep his valuation high – he must get back to his early season form.
The chance to test himself against the World Cup holders could be exactly the confidence boost required for the winger to kick on in the title run in.
