  • Jermain Defoe earns first managerial win as Woking thrash Morecambe 5-1 in National League.
  • Rangers academy product Connor Allan set to miss Falkirk clash against former club.
  • Rangers youth shine with 4-0 win over Motherwell in CAS Elite League.

Former Rangers striker Jermain Defoe picked up his first three points in management as his Woking side beat Morecombe 5-1 to relegate the Shrimps from the National League.

Defoe spoke on his appointment about the lessons he had learned during his time at Ibrox, and the style of football he wanted to play.

He keenly stressed that he feels he seen his game plan come into reality with his sides performance on Saturday.

“It was a convincing win, but no game’s easy, you have to make it easy,” he explained.

“I had a good feeling only because of the way the boys trained.

“The two days that we had on the grass was really sharp and it’s brought into the game.

It looked like what it looked like in training.

“We move the ball really quick and we’re confident doing it.”

His side were controlled and dominant, relentless in the style of his former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.

Defoe has taken over late in the season, with Woking comfortably mid-table, but he was keen to say that every match still matters.

“I’ve heard people say there’s nothing to play for, but there’s a lot to play for,” he said.

“It’s an opportunity to show people how good we are.”

Connor Allan to miss out on Gers reunion

Rangers travel to face Falkirk this weekend and will face off with former Ibrox youth player Connor Allan, who is set to miss out again despite his earlier impact this season.

Allan, a product of the Ibrox academy, forced his way into contention during an injury crisis earlier in the campaign, even producing a standout solo goal on his first start at centre-back.

That performance sparked a sustained run in the side.

However, he has not featured in recent weeks, with manager John McGlynn opting for greater physical presence in defence.

The Falkirk boss admitted the decision has been a difficult one, but pointed to the demands of Premiership football, particularly dealing with aerial threats, as a key factor behind Allan’s omission.

With Rangers next up. Allan now faces the prospect of watching on against his former club as Falkirk look to build on two draws against Danny Rohl’s side this season.

“It’s difficult, he wasn’t in the team to start wit. He got lucky in a sense because Coll Donaldson, who I was hoping was going to start the season in the team, went to get an operation and had issues,” McGlynn explained.

“We tried Connor out and he did very well.

“In his first game, he scored a worldie with regards to his amazing run and goal against Dundee.

“He did really, well. He’s not the biggest. He’s not the tallest. And at set plays, the other teams are much bigger than us in a nutshell.

“We have guys who have come back. And we’ve kind of kept it like it was.”

Youths dominate Well

With the first team not in action until Sunday, Rangers under 17’s took centre stage on Saturday.

Goals from Logan Band, Carson McGauley and a Daniel Owoyomi double seen the Colts run out 4-0 winners over the Steelmen in the CAS Elite league.

There were further positives for Rangers’ youth prospects.

Alexander Smith notched an assist as Dumbarton secured safety in League Two, with a win over Stirling Albion.
