- Kris Boyd slams Rangers loss to Motherwell with a serious warning for Danny Rohl’s team
- He heaped praise on Hearts for getting the job done again, while Celtic would have relished the latest Gers slip
- Boyd was strong in his assertion that Rangers’ title aspirations are now in jeopardy
Kris Boyd has stressed that Rangers’ title hopes are on the ropes after the loss against Motherwell.
The all-time top goalscorer in the SPL era has hammered home the reality that it’s win or bust at Tynecastle – no other result will do.
Boyd was speaking in his usual pundit role on Sky Sports in the aftermath of Hearts’ victory over Hibs at Easter Road.
That victory for Derek McInnes’ side was all the sweeter, given what happened a couple of hours earlier across the M8.
Kris Boyd on the problem facing Rangers
“Rangers have to go there and win, or it’s done. Celtic will be sitting at home buzzing with that result at Ibrox, said the former Scotland international.
“For them (Celtic), you look at Hibs going and winning here (Easter Road) today, it might have been them saying: ‘this could be ours again’.
“But Hearts have just found another way to go and keep winning a game of football, and ask questions of Glasgow’s big two.”
Hearts do keep winning, even if their performances haven’t been convincing.
That doesn’t matter at this stage. It’s points on the board.
The games are running out and the finish line is almost in sight. Rangers had it in their own hands and squandered the chance to build pressure.
Now the pressure is all on Danny Rohl and his team to win where no other side has been victorious this season.
A draw would mean a deficit of four points with only three games left – very unlikely.
A loss to Hearts means Rangers would trail the leaders by seven points and that would be fatal for the title hopes for another campaign.
