- Danny Rohl was speaking as he previews Sunday’s Old Firm derby
- Manager talks about need for “change” at Rangers after title collapse
- Rohl reiterates need for consistent performances in all matches
Danny Rohl has spoke out further on the disappointment of Rangers’ title hopes all but ending against Hearts on Monday.
The manager is preparing to take the Gers across the city to Celtic Park on the back of consecutive league defeats that have killed off their title ambitions.
In his preview of the Old Firm showdown, Rohl mentioned the need for “change” at Rangers going forward if they are to be successful.
Title collapse means Rohl is treading same path as predecessors
The title collapse at Rangers is a repeat of similar stories that have come out of Ibrox in recent seasons.
Rohl’s first months in charge at the Gers has eerily followed the path of two of his predecessors.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Philippe Clement both had Rangers in title contention during the 2021/22 and 2023/24 seasons in the initial months of their tenures only for the team to fall at the final hurdle.
Rohl is clearly aware of this, stating: “If you look a little bit back and we are honest to each other, in the last 15 years we didn’t win what we should do, and I think this is a big part of what we have to change.”
Rangers have not won enough silverware in recent seasons with this current campaign yet another one without a trophy.
This means that next season Rohl is facing the same task that has eluded many of his recent predecessors in the Ibrox dugout.
Lack of consistency highlighted as Rohl refers to “new standards”
The lack of consistency and performing over a full 90-plus minutes has plagued Rangers all season and was even rearing its ugly head during the tail end of the club’s recent unbeaten streak.
Rohl said: “We have to set new standards, and that means we have to change things in this building.
“We have to play not just 45 minutes good football and successful football, we have to change it to 90 minutes to dominate the game.”
Rangers have been alarmingly inconsistent in the last three games which has seen seven goals conceded.
If the German did not know before, he understands now that clearly he must set new standards at the club to have any chance of returning Rangers to success.

The more seasons Rangers complete without silverware the more momentous the task is for the man in the dugout.
What is coming across here is that Danny Rohl is aware of this and is determined to deliver change.
He knows Rangers are not consistent enough, that they have not won enough and standards must be better.
It is now up to him to back his words with results, performances and trophies.
