Danny Rohl has named his Rangers starting XI for the important SPFL Premiership Old Firm clash at Parkhead.
The German coach has once again opted for the surprise approach, recalling players from the cold, while others drop to the bench.
In the case of Nico Raskin, he is nowhere to be seen, but that one will shortly be cleared up by the Rangers boss.
The line-up is as follows:
Butland, Rommens, Fernandez, Djiga, Tavernier, Barron, Chukwuani, Diomande, Moore, Antman, Chermiti.
Subs – Kelly, Sterling, Aarons, Meghoma, Aasgaard, Gassama, Bajrami, Miovski, Skov Olsen.
More Rangers selection surprises, more inconsistency?
Here we go again.
Danny Rohl is now in a pattern of throwing players in from nowhere, having overlooked them in previous games.
Oliver Antman is a good player. He had a fine cameo against Falkirk pre-split but hasn’t featured since.
Now he’s expected to play a key role against Celtic at Parkhead.
Andreas Skov Olsen was overlooked in the must-win game at home to Motherwell, even from the bench, then he was thrown in at Tynecastle. Now he’s back out of the team.
The only consistency is inconsistency.
There is pressure on Danny Rohl and the team to get a result today.
Here and now, the performance is irrelevant, but in this theatre, you need to stand tall and get the business done.
After failing when it mattered against Motherwell and Hearts, the league title is almost certainly gone.
Today is about pride and salvaging some respectability, as well as some players showing they deserve to be involved next season.
There’s also the not insignificant matter of denting Celtic’s title aspirations.
All of this will fall back on Danny Rohl, his management and decisions.
