Djeidi Gassama infuriates Rangers fans again, this time with social media nonsense

Share

Some players just don’t get what it means to play for Rangers, and Djeidi Gassama looks like he is falling into that category.

The Mauritania international has had an inconsistent, frustrating first season at Ibrox, showing glimpses of talent and ability, but falling far short when it really matters.

On Saturday night, ahead of the crucial Old Firm clash against Celtic, a post appeared on the player’s Instagram account, showing two images.

One of them is his usual celebratory pose with one finger on his head and another on his lips, making the silence gesture.

What is this all about?

Djeidi Gassama needs to do his talking on the pitch

Firstly, there’s a very good chance that Gassama’s management company are responsible for the posts, but the buck stops with the player.

At a time when he is doing very little on the pitch and the team has just squandered a massive chance to win the title, it speaks volumes that this happens.

Yes, it’s not the end of the world, and there are far more pressing matters at Ibrox just now, but here is another sign of another player who just doesn’t get the club and the standards expected.

It’s not the case the that foreign players can’t grasp the situation.

Did you see Cyriel Dessers or his reps indulging in this nonsense? What about Vaclav Cerny?

Those two are proper professionals who know what is important and how to conduct themselves.

For Gassama and his team to attract this attention just ahead of a massive Old Firm game is not helpful or required.

Hopefully, if involved from the bench, the winger can have an impact at Parkhead and that will be welcomed, but what we need is consistent performances that turn into trophies and medals at the end of the season.

Then you can do your self-promotion.
