– Danny Rohl reflects on the need for improvement going forward
– His comments after the Falkirk game came ahead of the public backing from the club
– Rohl’s remarks show an awareness of shortcomings, but can he deliver
Danny Rohl evidenced that he knows his own performance needs to improve in the aftermath of the 5-2 win over Falkirk.
The German coach acknowledged that “I will be a better manager” as he addressed the press for the last time this season.
Rohl knows the situation and the need to hit the ground running this summer, but being able to make it happen is another matter.
Danny Rohl brings down the season with a candid comment
The Rangers boss had detailed that his position was secure, underpinned by the support of Andrew Cavenagh and the Rangers hierarchy.
At first, it was what you would expect him to say and what appeared to be the situation, but now there is no doubt.
Cavenagh’s press briefing on Sunday put the matter to bed.
Unless something incredible happens, Danny Rohl will be in charge of Rangers for the start of the new season.
Ready to rest ahead of next season
Danny Rohl was clearly relieved to get the win at Falkirk, with the added bonuses of a Youssef Chermiti hat-trick and league debuts for the youth trio of Ashton Scally, Zebedee Lawson, and Aiden McCallion.
“I will be a better manager than before,” said the 37-year-old.
“It’s been an emotional rollercoaster.
“Four weeks ago here, I was totally convinced that we could win the league, but we couldn’t. The gap was too big and there were too many defeats.
“We were competitive but not good enough in the key moments, continued Rohl.
“I will take all the information and see what we have to improve. I’ll come back in four weeks with a lot of energy for the new season.
“Rangers is a big job, a demanding job. That’s the reason why I like to be here. I demand a lot from myself and players.”
The Ibrox boss conceded that he was “tired right now”, but a four-week break will see him return to Glasgow with a “lot of ideas and fresh energy”.
That will be the least that is required.
A high-stakes, intense start to the new season is on the cards. Again.
