  • The Bournemouth loanee played 35 times for Rangers in the 2025/26 campaign
  • He did not impress and has no chance of securing a permanent return to Ibrox

Max Aarons is said to be attracting interest from Villarreal in La Liga, in what would be an incredible move for the player.

Despite a mediocre season (at best) at Ibrox, where he made 35 appearances, the reputation of the full-back is still intact with various clubs monitoring his situation.

Aarons came to Rangers last summer, with Premier League and existing La Liga experience, but he failed to make an impression under the weight of the expectation in Glasgow.

The high hopes amounted to nothing in what was a flop of a signing made during the short, ill-fated reign of Russell Martin.

Max Aarons transfer speculation

The Scottish Sun has reported that the 26-year-old is being targeted by the Yellow Submarines and that other clubs in England and on the continent are keeping tabs on the player.

Villarreal in La Liga. That would be a great example of falling upward.

With Bournemouth on the verge of Champions League qualification, threatening the big boys in the Premier League, Aarons is not likely to have a future with the Cherries.

He still has time remaining on his deal with the south coast club, so another loan could be possible, unless Bournemouth opt to cut much of their losses on the player.

In 2023, Max Aarons left Norwich City to sign for Bournemouth on a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee, thought to be worth around £7 million.

He is now part of the end-of-season exodus at Ibrox with his loan ended, as Danny Rohl prepares for a massive overhaul of the Rangers squad.
