- Rangers monitoring Oskar Fallenius as summer target amid wide attacking rebuild under Danny Rohl.
- Wolfsburg’s relegation play-off uncertainty could open door for Rangers transfer advantage.
- Player prefers left wing and could replace exiting loanees Andreas Skov Olsen and Mikey Moore.
Oskar Fallenius is emerging as a serious summer option for Rangers as uncertainty continues to surround the club’s wide attacking positions ahead of Danny Rohl’s first full campaign at Ibrox.
According to reports from Sportbladet, both VfL Wolfsburg and Rangers are monitoring the Djurgardens IF winger, whose current contract is running down and could allow him to leave Sweden this summer for a cut-price fee.
The situation is complicated in Rangers favour by Wolfsburg’s ongoing Bundesliga survival battle.
The German side remain locked in a relegation play-off against Paderborn after only managing a goalless draw in the first leg at home.
With the decisive return fixture still to come.
And according to reports in Sweden, Fallenius has already indicated he has little interest in playing second-tier football in Germany should Wolfsburg fail to preserve their Bundesliga status.
Rangers in pole position to bag Oskar Fallenius
That scenario could significantly strengthen Rangers’ position.
There is also an indirect Ibrox connection to the situation through Andreas Skov Olsen.
The Danish winger endured a disappointing loan spell in Govan after arriving with considerable expectation.
However, he ultimately struggled to impose himself consistently under Rohl.
Rangers are not expected to activate the option to make the move permanent, meaning Skov Olsen is set to return to Wolfsburg this summer.
That outcome may in turn affect Wolfsburg’s own transfer planning around Fallenius, particularly if they drop into the 2. Bundesliga while simultaneously reintegrating returning loan players.
Oskar Fallenius fits the bill or Rangers
For Rangers, the attraction to the Fallenius is easier to understand.
The club are expected to require additional depth in wide areas this summer.
Particularly with Mikey Moore returning to Spurs following the end of his loan spell.
Fallenius’ preference for operating from the left side could therefore align naturally with a vacancy already beginning to emerge inside the squad structure.
The player himself has also spoke openly about both his future and his preferred role.
“I have no problem staying,” Fallenius said recently.
“I love Djurgarden and have enjoyed myself very much here for three years.”
“There is a good relationship with the players, the coaches and [Sporting Director] Bosse Andersson, I really like the Djurgarden family.”
At the same time, he acknowledged that growing interest from abroad has reinforced his belief in his own development.
“I see it as a bonus and a pat on the back that they were interested,” he said when discussing previous interest from Schalke.
“In a way, I see it as a confirmation that I’ve done well for a while.”
Perhaps most significantly from a Rangers perspective, Fallenius was also direct when discussing the position in which he feels most effective.
“I’ve always wanted to play on the left wing,” he explained. “That’s always been my position.”
“I think you get the most out of me on the left wing. That’s where I feel comfortable.”
Those comments may resonate strongly with Rangers’ recruitment staff given the club’s ongoing need for natural width and a greater attacking threat in wide areas.

Rohl is expected to reshape several forward positions this summer following an inconsistent domestic campaign.
Fallenius increasingly appears to fit both the tactical profile and market conditions Rangers are looking to exploit.
With his contract situation unresolved, Wolfsburg’s future uncertain and Rangers actively reassessing their attacking options.
The circumstances are beginning to align around what could become one of the more intriguing transfer developments of the emerging summer window.
