- Kemar Roofe returned to Ibrox in a supporters’ match, marking his first appearance since leaving Rangers in 2024.
- The ex-Rangers striker reflected on his cameo, joking he “snuck back” to score at the stadium again.
- Roofe scored 34 goals for Rangers, winning major honours before injuries ended his Ibrox career.
Kemar Roofe has made a surprise return to Ibrox, taking part in a supporters’ match at the stadium this week in a nostalgic cameo that briefly rekindled memories of his productive spell in Govan.
The former Rangers forward, who left the club in 2024, stepped back onto the pitch in front of supporters for the first time since his departure, marking an informal but warmly received return to familiar surroundings.
Kemar Roofe scores another Ibrox goal
“I managed to sneak back into Ibrox to get another goal,” he said.
“A very good event by Five Stars.”
The appearance comes almost two years after his exit from Rangers brought an end to a mixed but memorable spell at the club, which began with significant promise following his arrival from Anderlecht in 2020.
Roofe scored 34 goals in 72 appearances during his first two seasons in Glasgow, contributing during a successful period under Steven Gerrard in which Rangers secured the Premiership title.
He also lifted the Scottish Cup under Giovanni van Bronckhorst the following year.
Under the Dutchman he also featured during the club’s run to the Europa League final, underlining his importance during a period when Rangers re-established themselves on the European stage.
Injury woes continue post-Ibrox
However, the latter stages of his Ibrox career were heavily disrupted by injury.
Fitness issues limited him to just four goals in 30 appearances across his final two seasons.
Despite those setbacks, he did collect the 2023/24 League Cup under Philippe Clement before eventually departing in 2024.
Since leaving Rangers, Roofe has endured a nomadic spell in the English game with short stints at Derby County and Walsall.
Although he has managed only a handful of senior appearances in that time and is now a free agent.
Kemar Roofe launches his own academy
Away from the pitch, he has shifted focus towards coaching and development work, launching the Roofe Academy as part of his next chapter in the game.
“Every session is an opportunity to improve,” he has said of the project.
“Parents sacrifice their time, money and energy to give young players opportunities (my parents were the same).
“So as players, the minimum we can do is maximise every second on the pitch.”
He added: “The best players don’t just turn up.”
“They work, listen, compete and improve every single session. All the best players I’ve shared a dressing room with did this.
“We’re not chasing perfection, we’re chasing improvement.”

While his competitive playing days at the highest level appear to be winding down, his brief return to Ibrox served as a reminder of both his peak impact and the injury frustrations that ultimately curtailed his Rangers career.
