Rangers will begin the 2026/27 Scottish Premiership season away to Dundee United on Friday, July 31, giving Derek McInnes an immediate televised test before his first league match at Ibrox.
The SPFL fixture release has put Rangers at Tannadice for an 8pm kick-off live on Sky Sports, with Hibernian then visiting Govan the following Sunday at 4pm. The opening pair gives McInnes a sharp domestic start as he begins the work of turning early-summer planning into league momentum.
The club confirmed the details in its official fixture announcement, which also lists the first Old Firm derby for Sunday, September 20 at Parkhead.
McInnes Gets A Demanding Rangers Runway
For supporters, the significance is not only the order of opponents. Rangers need a clean start after a restless campaign, and the new manager will be judged quickly on tone, selection and authority.
Dundee United away offers little room for easing in, while Hibernian at Ibrox should immediately test how McInnes wants his side to control matches at home. With Celtic arriving early in the calendar at Parkhead, the opening weeks already carry weight for the title mood.
That makes pre-season more than fitness work. Rangers now have a fixed competitive runway, and McInnes has clear dates around which to shape recruitment, tactical work and supporter expectation.
