John Souttar transfer in doubt following Aris Thessaloniki financial hitch

Rangers defender John Souttar has seen his proposed transfer to Aris Thessaloniki stall due to an unresolved financial dispute between the 29-year-old and the Ibrox board.

A late swoop from the Greek Super League side looked set to end Souttar’s time in Glasgow, following a previously scheduled medical date in Thessaloniki.

Aris Confirm Late Transfer Hitch

The registration deadline in Greece remains open until 15 September, but a swift conclusion now appears unlikely.

Speaking to the Daily Record, an Aris spokesman explained: “While we had found everything, the footballer has financial issues with Rangers.”

The representative added that “everything indicates that he will remain with the Scottish team” after negotiations failed to secure an agreement. They noted that “a final effort is being made to overturn the facts.”

McInnes Prepares For Squad Return

Manager Derek McInnes must now reintegrate the Scotland international into his defensive setup, a situation further complicated by the recent resignation of Dan Purdy.

Prior to the weekend, McInnes told livescore.com that the club would accommodate the player alongside defensive options like Ben Godfrey and Tuur Rommens if a European switch collapsed.

“But if he doesn’t move, and there isn’t anything that materialises, then of course we honour the contract, and he comes back into things,” McInnes said.

Rangers travel to Celtic Park for their next Scottish Premiership fixture on 20 September.
