  • Stewart insists Skov Olsen must deliver more in final six games of Premiership title race.
  • Andy Halliday calls for winger to be dropped after frustrating displays.

Greg Stewart has urged Andreas Skov Olsen to show his worth for Rangers during the Premiership title run in.

The former Rangers forward, who won the title under Steven Gerrard in 2021, admits he is underwhelmed by the Danish international.

“He’s not the player I thought he was,” he said on the Daily Record’s Rangers podcast.

“I’m struggling to think what he brings, I thought every time he got the ball on Saturday, he passed it backwards.

“I was really optimistic when we got him. I thought he could be the one who gets us over the line, but it’s been such underwhelming performances from him.”

Stewart when on to focus on what the winger, on loan from Wolfsburg, is not doing.

“When a winger comes in for that price, he must have a trick, he must be quick, he must get after people or make those unselfish runs in behind to create space for someone else, or offer a threat with his set-pieces,” he said.

“But I am struggling to see what he brings.”

Steven Gerrard comparison

Stewart spent two years at Ibrox under Gerrard but was a bit part player in his final season under the Liverpool icon.

A poor performance as the Gers exited the Scottish Cup to Hearts towards the curtailment of the prior season seen him out of the fold.

“He’s playing in a team that’s not lost since December,” he explained.

“And the manager is showing a bit of trust in him as well. When he’s played badly, he’s been allowed to play again. I wish I had that under Stevie.”

However, Stewart believes there is still time for Skov Olsen to prove his worth in the title run in.

“With six games left, there’s still time, and hopefully he can dig out a bit of magic from somewhere.”

Stewart himself returned to Scotland this season after a second stint in India.

He signed for Cove Rangers but injured his anterior cruciate ligament in January, ending his season.

Halliday also tears into Andreas Skov Olsen

Meanwhile, another ex-Ranger, Andy Halliday, has called on Danny Rohl to stop playing Skov Olsen.

Speaking on the Open Goal podcast, Halliday said: “It’s just so frustrating to watch.

“Signing a player with the CV he’s got, a player with caps for Denmark, the amount of goals he scored.

“Literally every time he receives the ball, he turns back and passes it inside.

“Flip it to the other wing and you’ve got an 18-year-old Mikey Moore, every time he gets the ball, he wants to do something.”

“For me, from now, stop playing him.”
