- Graeme Souness backs Danny Rohl and Andrew Cavenagh, praising their impact on Rangers’ title challenge and supporter connection.
- Alex Rae praises Dundee defender Luke Graham, suggesting the reported Rangers target fits key squad and homegrown requirements.
- West Ham join Rangers in pursuit of Jens Hjerto Dahl, threatening Ibrox hopes of signing the Tromso midfielder.
Forty years after guiding Rangers to their title-winning triumph at Pittodrie, former manager Graeme Souness has backed both head coach Danny Rohl and chairman Andrew Cavenagh.
Souness praised Cavenagh for reconnecting the club’s leadership with its supporters.
“It’s vital for the Rangers chairman to engage with the fans. For a long time, there hasn’t been a figurehead supporters could point to and say, ‘He’s, our man.’ Andrew has become that, and it’s exactly what the club needed,” Souness explained.
On Rohl, Souness was equally supportive.
“How can anyone criticise Danny Rohl?
“When he arrived, Rangers were nowhere in the title race and had no realistic chance of winning the league,” he asked.
“Now it’s in their own hands. They need to win every game, but he’s given them a genuine opportunity. Any judgement should wait until the season is over.”
Reflecting on his own first campaign in charge, Souness recalled: “My first season as player-manager at Rangers was extraordinary.
“The club had gone nine years without winning the league, and the supporters were desperate.
“Winning that first title was an incredible feeling, and it was only the beginning of a great run.”
Alex Rae praises Gers target
Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has praised reported Ibrox transfer target Luke Graham.
Following his impressive performance as Dundee narrowly lost to Celtic last weekend, the current Partick Thistle assistant manager was full of praise for the 22-year-old.
“The boy Graham was excellent at the weekend, very aggressive, naturally left-sided as well, which gives you that balance,” he explained.
“When you are looking at your European quota of Scottish homegrown talents, that would be one ticking the box.
“I would imagine that he would be on Rangers’ radar.”
Dundee manager Steven Pressley told supporters of his Dens Park side that they should “enjoy” Graham “while they can,” preparing the support for a summer exit.
Premier League side enter race for Rangers target
West Ham United have now joined the race to sign Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto Dahl, who has been linked with a move to Ibrox since January.
Rangers were linked with the Norwegian 20-year-old during the winter but were unable to make a move.
The club added Tochi Chukwuani in midfield during the window.
However, no further additions have been made in that area of the park.
He had been mooted for a summer move to Rangers.
It now looks likely that Rohl will focus on Andersen, with Hjerto Dahl set to be tempted by English riches.
