- A European Golden Shoe thinks Pierce Charles to Rangers is “brilliant”
- Charles has established himself at Sheffield Wednesday and Northern Ireland
- Rangers are going through a goalkeeper crisis with Jack Butland performing badly
A former European Golden Shoe winner wants Pierce Charles to move to Scotland in the transfer window.
Charles, who’s established himself as Northern Ireland’s number one, has been exceptional for Sheffield Wednesday this season.
Despite the club getting relegated, Charles has grown significantly in the season, becoming a better shot stopper and leader.
At 20, the Northern Irishman has a lot of development to do, but the opportunity could be just right with Rangers.
Jack Butland, who’s been an ever-present in the Gers side, has been poor in the last few months.
He’s conceded eight goals in the last three matches, and calls for a replacement have heightened.

A ‘Brilliant’ move to Scotland for Charles
After a negative season playing at Sheffield Wednesday, European Golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips thinks a move to Rangers would be ‘brilliant.’
Phillips believes Charles would relish the opportunity to play for a giant like Rangers and compete in the Premiership.
However, he doesn’t shy away from talking about the difference between playing for Sheffield Wednesday and Rangers.
Phillips said, “It’s a big, big step up for him. Sheffield Wednesday, unfortunately, has conceded a lot of goals this season.
“He’s had to make a lot of saves, and he’s been very, very busy.
“And to jump from there to the Scottish Premiership, two massive football clubs. Listen, I think he’d be happy to go.
“He would certainly go there, and he wouldn’t get tested as much. He’s a very good goalkeeper.
“I think the player would only want to go somewhere knowing he’s going to play week in and week out, and they’re two big giants.
“So, if he gets that opportunity, then brilliant for his career.”

Pierce Charles fits the recruitment model that the Rangers are trying to move forward with in the future.
Buy young for cheap and potentially sell on for much more in the future.
Charles has the experience of playing for a huge club in a hostile environment week in and week out.
This and already establishing himself as an international goalkeeper are perfect building blocks for a career at Rangers.
With Jack Butland seemingly on his way out after some disastrous performances, the timing is perfect for Charles to stake his claim.
He’s a Manchester City graduate, making him good with the ball at his feet and a solid shot-stopper.
Is the time right for Rangers to sign Charles this summer?
