Derek McInnes says Rangers have given him “a load of encouragement” from the boardroom as he continues shaping his squad ahead of the Scottish Premiership opener at Dundee United on July 31.
According to comments given to the Rangers Review, the new head coach said the club’s recruitment staff, including Dan Purdy and Jim Gillespie, remain in “constant dialogue” as Rangers look to add further faces this summer, having already completed six signings in Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Ivor Pandur, Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin and Lawrence Shankland since McInnes replaced Danny Rohl in June.
Andrew Cavenagh’s Backing Fuels McInnes’ Recruitment Push
McInnes credited chairman Andrew Cavenagh and the club’s ownership group for giving him room to work, though he stressed the budget “is not unlimited” and that Rangers “have to cut our cloth accordingly.” The head coach added that the squad he takes to Tannadice on the opening weekend “will be a wee bit different” to the one currently training in Spain, with the transfer window still open for a month beyond kick-off.
Rangers’ preparations continue with two Ibrox friendlies before the Premiership begins – a Spanish training camp is set to be followed by games against Saint-Etienne on July 22 and West Ham United on July 26 – part of the squad-building work McInnes has prioritised since taking charge.
