  • Luke Graham linked with Rangers as Dundee boss Steven Pressley admits possible summer exit.
  • Rangers face defensive rebuild with only John Souttar and Manny Fernandez currently senior centre-back options.
  • Andrew Cavenagh confirms pro-Scottish recruitment bias prioritising domestic players matching squad profiles.

Luke Graham’s future at Dundee is already the subject of growing summer attention, with manager Steven Pressley acknowledging the defender may have played his final game for the club.

Dundee finished their Premiership campaign with a 3–2 win over Aberdeen at Dens Park, though Graham was restricted to a late substitute appearance as speculation around his future intensified.

Pressley was open in his assessment afterwards, confirming the level of external interest in the 22-year-old centre-back.

“Possibly. We don’t know how the activity will go, but what we do know is there’s a lot of interest in him,” he said.

“We’ve taken a lot of calls on him. So, it might be the last time the supporters see him in a Dundee shirt. But it may not be.”

Luke Graham says goodbye to Dens Park

The Dundee boss also revealed Graham’s brief appearance was partly intended to allow him a moment in front of the supporters, while still contributing tactically to a tight game.

“There was a little bit of that, but also I wanted to win the game,” Pressley added.

“Set plays could be decisive, so I wanted more physicality, but equally I wanted to get him on the pitch.”

Rangers remain interested in Luke Graham

Graham’s development has not gone unnoticed at Ibrox, where Rangers are expected to prioritise defensive reinforcements this summer as part of a wider squad rebuild under Danny Rohl.

Rangers’ defensive options are already in transition.

The club are set for the departures of loanees of Nasser Djiga and Derek Cornelius leaving gaps in the squad.

At present, only vice-captain John Souttar and Manny Fernandez are established senior centre-back options, with further movement expected before the start of the new season.

Club captain James Tavernier has also been used in defensive roles at times.

However, his upcoming departure would further reduce flexibility across the back line.

Leon King and Ben Davies will also depart upon the expiration of both their loans away and contracts.

Luke Graham fits Gers “pro-Scottish bias”

Gers top dog Andrew Cavenagh has already outlined a recruitment approach that places added emphasis on domestic talent where profiles are aligned.

“We have a pro-Scottish bias in the club today. Meaning if you have two players roughly equal and one is Scottish, we will take the Scottish player,” Cavenagh revealed.

He stressed, however, that recruitment remains profile-led rather than nationality-led.

“When we look at what positions we are filling we don’t start with people we start with profiles, an athletic centre-back or a ball-winning centre-back,” he said.

“We are always asking who is Scottish that fits that profile.”

That approach places players like Graham firmly within Rangers’ recruitment parameters this summer.

The 22-year-old has already attracted strong interest.

Dundee reportedly rejecting a £1.5m bid from Portsmouth in January, underlining both his importance and rising stock.

For Rangers, the appeal is straightforward.

Graham is a young, physically strong, tactically developing centre-back already proven within the Scottish Premiership.

With defensive restructuring underway and squad balance shifting, Graham is expected to be one of several domestic-based profiles considered as Rangers look to strengthen depth and long-term quality in central defence.
