Youssef Chermiti transfer clarity provides win-win situation for Rangers

Youssef Chermiti has provided an encouraging response to the question of transfer speculation, and one that represents a win-win situation for Rangers and the supporters.

As things stand, Rangers will be going into the 2026/27 season with four strikers – Chermiti, Lawrence Shankland, Ryan Naderi and Bojan Miovski.

The quartet will be required, given that Derek McInnes is set to play with two up front in most games, certainly on the domestic front.

Danilo is surplus to requirements with the Brazilian said to have interest from his native country, as well as the Netherlands and Greece.

Youssef Chermiti is attracting transfer interest

As for Chermiti, he is a much different figure from the one who arrived in Glasgow one year ago.

The Portugal U21 international has emerged from a season of tumult, pressure and expectation as a stronger, more confident and developed operator.

His credentials are clear to see. That’s why clubs from the Top 5 leagues are monitoring him, and at 22, he is only going to get better.

Lyon have already enquired, but they were deterred by the fee demanded at Ibrox, with Rangers holding firm on a minimum £20 million valuation.

Where does that leave Chermiti and Rangers?

With his stock rising and enquiries landing, it would be understandable if Chermiti was thinking of a potential move elsewhere.

That is not the case.

The former Everton player has made it clear that he is happy at Ibrox and wants to progress further.

He is primed for it, and that’s encouraging for all at Rangers.

Chermiti showed in the second half of last season what he’s all about and what he can contribute. THAT goal against Celtic was a memorable one, even if it counted for nothing in the end.

He is a better player for the goals and games in the bank last term, the most he has ever registered as a senior player.

Speaking to the Rangers Review, Youssef Chermiti responded on transfer speculation:

“I’m very happy here. I like Glasgow, I like the club and everyone likes me as well.

“I think everyone is just trying to help me with my development. It is not a distraction for me, to be honest I don’t hear anything. I don’t hear any noise from outside the club. I leave that with my agent and my family.

“I’m just focused on this season and on Rangers. I feel very good in the city. Even my family is happy. 100 per cent, there is more to come from me. I think that’s the target.”

He went on to speak about his ambitions of breaking into the senior Portugal squad and if his trajectory continues, that will be a real possibility.

If Chermiti continues to score and impress, the rest could be taken out of Rangers’ hands.

Every player has their price, but Chermiti is in no hurry to leave.

The club is set to benefit if he remains, and if a blockbuster bid lands, the price tag will be reward for the club.

It’s a win-win situation for all at Rangers.
